Could the Cigarette Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?

An abundance has been talked in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry alive. But can the web variation of this traditional game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its land based peer?

Bingo has been an classic game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti cigarette law all over Britain.

Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular areas where players enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t deserted this established game?

The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can play bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the web will never replace the social portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left many bingo players with no alternative.
