Will the Anti Smoking Law in the UK Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?

[ English ]

A lot has been written in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses alive. However does the net adaptation of this classic game provide a lifeline, or might it not compare to its real life kin?

Bingo is an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had experienced a recent return in acceptance with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the smoking ban all over United Kingdom.

No more will players be permitted to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t forgotten this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cig and in the end, have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course wagering on on the internet is unlikely to replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
